The GCCPC and the Gambia Transport Union today signed an MOU to promote consumer welfare and competition in the transport sector. The partnership will see the two sides working together to ensure the effective implementation of the Consumer Protection Act 2014 and the Competition Act 2007. The Executive Secretary GCCPC Amadou Ceesay noted that the two organisations have a long standing working relationship. He added that the MOU is a manifestation of the Commission’s commitment to protect consumers and bolster competition in the markets. Ceesay enjoined the transport union to address existing inadequacies in the sector to safeguard the rights of consumers and businesses. The President of the Gambia Transport Union Omar Ceesay assured the Commission of the union’s support to ensure effective competition and the protection of consumers. The Secretary General of the union Malick Ngum described the agreement as timely. GCCPC Director of Legal and Enforcement Alagie Sambou made similar remarks. The Director of Competition and Consumer Protection at the Commission Baboucarr Ceesay and Basiru Njie respectively called for concerted efforts for the efficient application of the MOU.
