Administration Of Consumer Complaints In the 3rd Quarter Of a year 2021

The Commission registered forty-two (42) cases in the third quarter of 2021. Seventeen (17) cases representing 36% of the total cases registered were resolved through ADR. Seven (7) cases representing 17% of the total registered cases are ongoing through ADR at the commission. Ten (10) of the total cases representing 24% were referred to the Legal and Enforcement Department. One (1) case on real estate was referred to a sector regulator representing 2%.  Two (2) of the cases were closed, for the reason that one of respondent couldn’t be found for a period of two weeks and the complainant in the second case left the country before the ADR  representing 5% of the registered cases. Six (6) of the cases, which represent 14% were withdrawn and settled.  One (1) case, representing 2% of the registered was withdrawn after the intervention of the Commission prior to ADR.

The graph above illustrates the status of cases registered in the third quarter of the year 2021. ADR recorded 36%, closed cases 5%, ongoing 17%, withdrawn 2%, referred to Department of Legal 24%, referred to sector regulator 2% and withdrawn and settled cases 14%.

The graph above illustrates the breakdown of consumer cases registered by category in the third quarter of 2021. The Commission has registered a total number of forty-two (42) cases in the third quarter of 2021, among which cars & spare parts and mobile phones recorded the highest number of registered cases, which account for 26% for each category. Electrical appliances recorded 22%, Real Estate and Land registered 7% and Others registered 19%. Others services comprise of, air ticket, casino, chlorine mix, metal door, bank charges, construction, visa services and fence mesh.
