The Commission on Thursday 24th June conducted a training for officials of the Ministry of Gender, Children and Social Welfare. The exercise in line with the Commission’s Strategic Plan (2019-2023) and the NDP seeks to engage stakeholders in mainstreaming Competition and Consumer Protection issues into government policies and programs. GCCP is mandated to enforce the Competition Act 2007, administer and promote the Consumer Protection Act 2014, administer and enforce the Essential Commodities Act 2015.
In a brief statement the Permanent Secretary at the Ministry Rohey Bittaye Darboe thanked the commission for the initiative. She said her office will utilize the knowledge gained to address especially challenges faced by women and youth entrepreneurs among others. The PS assured of the ministry’s continuous partnership with the GCCPC in advocating for greater consumer welfare and competition in the markets.
The Director of Competition Baboucarr Ceesay delivered a presentation on the Competition Act 2007, whilst Fabakary Touray Consumer Protection Officer gave a presentation on the Consumer Protection Act 2014.
