VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

 

JOB TITLE: PRINCIPAL ECONOMIST

REPORTS TO: DIRECTOR OF COMPETITION

OVERALL FUNCTION: To provide the requisite technical expertise in relation to economic analysis and research to the Department to enhance its efficient and cost-effective functioning.

SPECIFIC TASKS

  • Identify competition and consumer welfare issues that require economic analysis, review and develop proposals for inquiry.

 

  • Collect, compile and analyze relevant economic data that would inform the Commission on the status of competition and consumer protection issues in the country on a quarterly basis

 

  • Develop and conduct, in collaboration with other Department staff, relevant research and market studies on the relevant competition and consumer protection issues in the country, and produce reports for publication and dissemination.

 

  • Assist in the planning of a quarterly program of activities for the Department.

 

  • Provide the Head of Department regular updates and written quarterly reports on activities carried out, accomplishments and constraints.

 

  • Assist in the monitoring of market and economic activities to ascertain the prevailing competitive and consumer oriented business environment.

 

  • Provide timely reports on research and market studies conducted for publication and dissemination.

 

  • Work collaboratively with other Departments, for the timely dissemination of research and market studies findings.

 

  • Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Head of Department.

 

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  1. A Maters degree in Economics.
  2. At least 5 years of demonstrable post qualification.
  3. Self-motivated with good interpersonal skills.
  4. Advance knowledge of a wide range of software.
